The Fraunhofer Gesellschaft was created more than 60 years ago in Munich and is one of the largest RnD entities in Europe with 17,000 employees and €1.5bn in annual budget. The Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration IZM, Germany is a global technology leader in the development of next generation electronics, micro- and nano-system integration and packaging. IZM bridges the gap between academic research and development and industrial application and technology transfer: i.e. it renders technologies and ideas into processes and technological platforms that can readily be used by commercial partners. They also provide small to medium scale production system integration services for commercial partners.

Blackrock Microsystems is a pilot commercial partner with whom IZM intends to transfer recently developed system integration technologies and reliability know how into the market place.
